Founded in 1906, Phi Kappa Tau has grown into an organization of more than 85,000 alumni members and 3,500 undergraduates on more than 85 campuses across the country. Since the Fraternity’s founding, the success of the organization has relied on engaged and supportive volunteers.

Phi Kappa Tau’s volunteers are critical to the success of the Fraternity. Everyday volunteers carry out the mission and vision of Phi Kappa Tau and ensure the Phi Tau experience is provided across our nation.

To ensure that Phi Kappa Tau continues to grow and prosper, the Fraternity must continue to expand its volunteer corp. Phi Kappa Tau offers several volunteer opportunities for its member to get re-engaged with the Fraternity and live out the mission of a LIFELONG commitment to brotherhood, learning, ethical leadership and exemplary character.

Local Chapter Board of Governors Positions (for individual chapters)
Board of Governors Chairman A BOG chairman is a volunteer who maintains membership and organization of the BOG, encourages compliance and improvement in regards to the Borradaile Challenge, and communicates with constituencies (undergraduates, BOG members, Executive Offices, greek advisor, university officials, Domain Director, etc.). Alumni Advisor An alumni advisor is a volunteer who helps the chapter to develop, implement and maintain all aspects of an alumni relations program. Download job description
Chapter Advisor A chapter advisor is a volunteer who serves as the primary advisory to a Resident Council, coaches and supports undergraduate membership in values-based, effective decision making, and develops orientation, training and transitioning of chapter officers. Download job description
Faculty Advisor A faculty advisor is a volunteer who serves as the primary link between the chapter and the college/university, updates the Resident Council on current college/university policies, and acts as the liaison to college/university administration, as necessary. Download job description
Financial Advisor A financial advisor is a volunteer who works with chapter leadership to establish and sustain suitable financial strategies and fiscal management of the undergraduate chapter, facilitate the creation and approval of an annual budget, and enforce financial policies in the best interest of the chapter with absolute authority as defined by the Phi Kappa Tau Constitution Title V, Section 47, when needed. Recruitment Advisor A recruitment advisor is a volunteer who works with the undergraduate chapter leadership to develop an annual recruitment strategy, monitor the adherence to the 5-Step Recruitment Process and support undergraduate membership in proactive recruitment efforts that align with the mission of the organization. Risk Management Advisor A risk management advisor is a volunteer who promotes a safe chapter environment for members and guests, ensures the chapter (BOG and Resident Council) has a working knowledge of all risk management and liability insurance policies, and is the primary contact for the chapter risk management and social chairman in the area of risk management. Scholarship Advisor A scholarship advisor is a volunteer who promotes an environment of scholarship throughout the chapter, serves as the scholarship resource specialist for the chapter and monitors the chapter’s academic records. Download job description
Various Chapter Services Roles
Domain Director A Domain Director monitors the chapters’ operational status while fostering progress through the development of a supportive Board of Governors. This includes ensuring policy and standard compliance through the Borradaile Challenge and serving as the primary National Fraternity ambassador in the domain. This is done through the support and maintenance of chapters’ Boards of Governors and the coordination of resources and programs that will aid in chapter development at the Graduate and Resident Council levels. Local Chapter Housing Corporation A Housing Corporation is a chapter’s volunteer group that meets regularly to maintain the local chapter house and property. Housing Corporation officers include president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. Download job description
Chapter Services Subject Matter Expert A chapter service subject matter expert (SME) is the volunteer who provides expertise in the development, implementation, and assessment of subject programs and serves as the primary liaison to the chapter services department in all areas pertaining to the subject. Chapter Operational Retreats Facilitator A chapter operational retreat facilitator is a local volunteer who facilitates Recruiting Men of Character Retreats, Ritual Retreats, Executive Council Retreats, ResponsAbility and/or Chapter Operational Workshops.  
Education Programs Volunteer Opportunities
Program Dean

The program dean directs the entirety of a education program. This person selects and leads the committee that builds the objectives, curriculum, and assessment of a program. Additionally, this person oversees the program in terms of event management or the lead for the program. A program dean is in charge of training and selecting all volunteers for the program.

Lead Leadership Coach The lead leadership coach (LLC) is the volunteer designated to execute Leadership Academy while on-site. This person works to ensure that the event is implemented as designed. This role also includes the facilitation of many parts of the curriculum.  
Leadership Coach The leadership coach is a small-group facilitator for Leadership Academy. This person facilitates the curriculum at the event for small "chapter" meetings. A leadership coach also assists the LLC as needed.  
Regional Conference Coordinator The Regional Conference coordinator is in charge of planning and executing the Regional Conference in their geographic region. This person selects and recruits the facilitators for this event. The commitment to this role involves working with the Regional Conference Dean on the policies of all Regional Conferences.  
Regional Conference Facilitator The Regional Conference facilitator leads the pre-designed curriculum for an educational session at the nearby Regional Conference. This person also assists the Regional Conference coordinator with other on-site tasks.  
Volunteer Development Institute Facilitator The Volunteer Development Institute facilitator leads the pre-designed curriculum for an educational session at the program. This person also assists the dean with other on-site tasks.  
Presidents Academy Facilitator The Presidents Academy facilitator leads the pre-designed curriculum for an educational session at the program. This person also assists the dean with other on-site tasks.  
BMC Lead Facilitator The BMC lead facilitator is the person responsible for executing the BMC program curriculum at the local chapter. This person works with the Resident and Graduate Council to set up the event.  
BMC Facilitator The BMC facilitator assists the lead in executing the program at the local chapter.  
Curriculum Team Member A curriculum team member serves as part of the committee that writes the curriculum and training for each education program. This involves not only writing, but also creating activities for the facilitators to implement at the program. The curriculum team member usually, but not always, participates as a lead or general facilitator for the program.  
General Subject Matter Expert A general subject matter expert designs, develops, and delivers the content for an online program for any topic not related to chapter operations and Fraternity functions.

Effective October 14, 2011: All Board of Governors members (Board of Governors chairmen, alumni advisors, chapter advisors, financial advisors, recruitment advisors, risk management advisors and scholarship advisors) must be a certified Phi Kappa Tau volunteer. To become a certified Phi Kappa Tau volunteer one must complete the Phi Kappa Tau Volunteer Certification Program available on-line at www.phikappatau.org/certification. Certification is required through the Phi Kappa Tau Statutes (Title V. Section 47), the Borradaile Challenge (Board of Governors metric) and the Strategic Plan (R.3). All current Board of Governors members that are not certified by the date above will be removed from their respective chapter’s Board of Governors roster and must become certified before re-appointment.
